New "Path to AI Maturity" report from LXT an important read
Walking through town is quite scary
It’s not very sensible either
This week, we got a new report from LXT, an AI data collection and annotation firm, called The Path To AI Maturity.
The report itself is a valuable addition to the conversational AI firmament. Worth downloading as it can be a valuable industry reference source.
The basis of the report was the surveying of 200 high-level executives working for large companies, exploring the investment being made in AI currently and the business drivers behind said investment.
I asked LXT’s Jodie Ruby, one of the architects of the report, why they commissioned it:
Our goal in conducting this research was to understand how executives within the enterprise view their current level of AI maturity now that AI has been a strategic priority for several years and investments in AI have grown exponentially. We also wanted to understand the drivers for AI within these organizations and what has contributed to the success of those companies that have reached higher levels of AI maturity.
The report does a couple of things really well that have nothing to do with the main points presented:
It looks really good. Easy to read and vibrant. Obviously created by professionals with attention to detail, which gives you a good feeling about LXT itself.
It is concise. Clocking in at 25 pages in length, it doesn’t drone on and on - it shows up, presents some key takeaways, and calls it a day.
If your slide deck for your AI startup doesn’t adhere to these two rules, do it again.
Two visuals included in the latter half of the report stand out:
This first one shows normal distribution around how larger organizations are investing in AI. Fortune 100 companies aren’t spending 10x more, proportionally, than mid-size firms, which is an interesting observation.
This second visual shows the most common drivers behind the investments these large companies are making in AI.
Product development being at the top of the list helps shed some light on the corporate mindset involved: lots of exploration is currently ongoing in large organizations on how AI can be an incremental improvement for existing offerings, rather than the basis of new products & services.
Interestingly, LXT reports that this report will be updated annually, providing even more reason to download this version now and get on the list to receive those updates as they’re released. You can grab the report here.
