I'll be back in the high life again…
All the doors I closed one time, will open up again.
I'll be back in the high life again!
All the eyes that watched me once, will smile and take me in.
For Miki Tate, the world’s a difficult place.
Diagnosed with ALS, she has trouble doing basic tasks, such as pushing buttons on a remote control.
Fortunately for her, along came Bill Weis, who after forty years in technology, including fifteen of those at Microsoft, decided to lend his considerable talents to bringing voice activation to beds and lift chairs.
In this video, having ALS doesn’t very much get in the way of Miki Tate’s spirits lifting, and being abundantly grateful, for someone taking the time to bring voice into her world.
Bill Weis’ 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Limited Mobility Solutions, has impacted the lives of numerous people for the better, all through implementing voice into various hardware and equipment.
One of these people is a person named Robbie, a person with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, who is unable to move his body and was required to wake up his mother every hour to regain some level of comfort while trying to sleep.
His mother approached Bill Weis, who reached out to an old colleague and partnered with him to create a solution for Robbie which encompassed not just his bed, but also his lights, his fan, and his TV for even greater independence.
Word spread.
Now, their fledgling team at Limited Mobility Solutions receives inquiries from across the United States and beyond.
Wounded warriors, including one who was forced to push buttons on his bed remote with his teeth prior to Bill Weis and LMS getting involved.
People with various neuromuscular, neurological, and physical injuries.
And some people for whom general aging has deprived them of abilities.
Demand for bed and lift chair equipment likely exceeds 150,000 families across the United States alone - demand that they know they can never come close to meeting.
But for those they do impact, like Miki Tate, their lives are changed.
And I'll drink and dance, with one hand free…
Let the world back into me.
Oh, I'll be a sight to see…
Back in the high life again.
